CEE Green Building Award for Multi-use Building Complex Plac Unii

2011-12-16

Multi-use Building Complex Plac Unii won CEE Green Building Award in category BREEAM Pre-certified Developments for the most advanced pre-ecological developments. That building was design by Kurylowicz & Associates architecture studio and have been awarded as one of three buildings of that kind in Middle-Eastern Europe.
The capitol of the Association of Green Building Professional evaluate that building in terms of water rate and energy consumption, limiting CO2 emissions and the waste management.

On 15.06.2009, in the building of the Ministry of Culture at Krakowskie Przedmieście the Minister of Culture, Bodgan Zdrojewski presented the annual award for outstanding achievements to several representatives of the world of arts. Stefan Kuryłowicz is the first architect to be distinguished with this award.

The verdict of the jury: The work has been distinguished with the 1st degree honourable mention for the carefully composed façade, for the handling of the ingenious configuration of window openings, recesses, bays, with the use of detail also
in the corners of the building, owing to which a harmonious architectural expression reflecting in a distinctive manner the diversity of the functions of the building has been achieved. The architecture of the existing building was deftly referenced by the height of the building and its texture. Regardless of the qualities listed above, the design has some functionally crucial fragments that have not been sufficiently developed from the technological viewpoint. Also, the need to design
a three floor high connector raises some doubts.
