Architecture is a discipline requiring knowledge, imagination, the worldview of the people who create it. Not all designs being developed have an opportunity to be executed, not all of them are created with the view of executing them either; those, however, which are successful in terms of their full materialization constitute an emanation of the personality of the people, who must be capable of holding on to and carrying the most important characteristics determining the nature of the designed building and its architecture through the plethora of problems, approvals and unforeseen circumstances.
Such a team of people cannot be developed in a day. In our Studio the team has been developed over a period of over 20 years by the teachers and their students, and later on by their common colleagues; from Warsaw but sometimes from other cities and universities. There are 7 persons among us, who actively teaching architectural design at the Faculty of Architecture of Warsaw University of Technology.
The entire team of Kuryłowicz & Associates is united with respect to its common approach towards formulating the essence of each issue, solving it as a challenge and an opportunity to find the truth about another piece of space followed by exposing those characteristics of this truth, which will help live and understand life, here, and not only presently but with a view to the future. Always with the aim of improving space – as far as architecture is capable of.
We are extremely privileged to co-operate with the Clients who appreciate this power of architecture and are seeking it together with us. This type of approach enables eliminating the division of architecture into commercial and social, rich and poor. Its expression need not depend on the budget of the investor, nor on the intended use of the building – we have been successful in designing buoyant spaces in hospitals, for example, where the design was being developed on the basis of extremely modest financial resources as well as enjoying the financial resources enabling to match the world’s level in terms of expensive technical standards, where the client had more ample funds, for example.
We believe that responsibility is the key element for dealing with space. On many various levels: the artistic level involving the interpretation of the environment, possibilities of the form, its expression which should be appropriate and unique; the scientific level involving the multi-faceted approach in various disciplines the creatively support the idea behind the design; the economic level involving the rational management of the entrusted budget and timely sustainable work in accordance with the rhythm agreed with the client. We also actively participate in the process of construction offering our project architect’s supervision and building control as well as our additional expertise.
The architecture that we have created is part of the landscape of Poland after the changes at the turn of the 80’s and the 90’s. Our ambition is that it attest to the positive metamorphoses in our history, to the people undertaking the risk in various difficult activities whom we accompany with our work, to the Polish identity and tradition with the contemporary language of solutions.
Presently, our Studio employees over seventy permanent employees, including high-class architects, civil engineers and building control inspectors. We co-operate with the renowned specialists in the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, HVAC engineering and construction engineering – from Poland and abroad. APA K&A Architecture Studio participate in the entire implementation process of the investment project: on behalf of the client it deals with all administrative and technical formalities and, most of all, approvals enabling commencement of the project from the legal standpoint. It also participates in the selection of subcontractors and negotiates with them terms and conditions of the contract that are beneficial for the client.
The Studio provides a comprehensive technical building control by thoroughly controlling the construction and project budget as well as it assumes responsibility for obtaining the building use permit. The organizational structure of the Studio – the stable team of architects, designers and building control inspectors - reflects the programme referred to above. The core of the Studio is made up of the specialists with vast professional experience who have co-operated with each other for several years. Owing to the training and education cycle having been intentionally carried out, the company employs ten project managers, whose expertise and talent enable management of the project from the stage of creative concept through to the execution of the structure. Young employees who have been recruited after their graduation from the Faculty of Architecture of Warsaw University of Technology are a major asset of the Studio. Designers from other disciplines are equally painstakingly selected. The company has been permanently co-operating with the proven structural engineering offices and MEP offices. Depending on the size of the project, at least several persons representing all disciplines participate in its development. Over 100 persons in total are constantly involved in the company’s projects.
Since the beginning of 1999, the company has had a large modern head office at Saska Kępa District. The new study has been equipped with all design-support systems, is fully computerized, uses the safe technologies for storing and archiving data, electronic mail and the Internet. It is therefore prepared to service design orders of any size. The company is open to new technical and technological solutions; all technical innovations are utilized in a rational way.
The Studio opened its branch in Wrocław at the beginning of 2006. It has managed to win several prestigious orders in a relatively short time. Presently, Wrocław branch under the management of Arkadiusz Chamielec employs 15 persons.
APA K&A Architectural Plans for the near future include further improvements to the organizational structure of the Studio and its adaptation to ever growing requirements of the market and clients alike.
